Dane County Mental Health and Substance Abuse Professional

The Mental Health Professional/Substance Use Professional (MHP/SAP) will work with the integrated Dane County Drug Treatment Court (DCTC), Diversion Program (DCDP), and Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) programs. The CCS program helps individuals live their best lives by providing support and services to address their unique needs related to mental health and substance use. The Dane County Drug Treatment Court and the Dane County Diversion Program exist to enhance public safety by reducing recidivism. This is accomplished by coordinating effective treatment and supportive services and ensuring accountability throughout participants’ time in the program. The MHP/SAP oversees the CCS Service Facilitators and CCS’s day-to-day operations. This position also provides treatment recommendations to the court and routine updates on participant progress in person and in writing. Additionally, the MHP/SAP clinically supervises the team to provide tailored services so the participants can grow through their recovery. The MHP/SAP leads the team in learning and increasing clinical skills to assist the participants in overcoming barriers and meeting their life goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the need for psychosocial rehabilitation services and assist staff in identifying appropriate services to address identified barriers to recovery
  • Review and process assessments, treatment plans, and other required clinical documentation
  • Participate as a member of the recovery team by attending team meetings, developing rapport with individuals and their teams, and providing clinical guidance
  • Provide routine updates on participants’ progress to the courts in person and in writing, and provide court with treatment recommendations in response to participant’s progress
  • Provide clinical consultation, recommendations, and support to CCS, DCTC, and DCDP staff through individual, group, and side-by-side supervision
  • Serve as clinical supervisor for program staff, providing direct services, offering clinical guidance on treatment plans, attending team meetings, and ensuring delivery of quality services
  • Assist with initial and ongoing training for staff and implement policies and policy changes

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited school in Social Work, Counseling, or related field
  • State of Wisconsin Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR State of Wisconsin Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) OR State of Wisconsin Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Must meet the requirements of DHS 75.03(85) as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, a Substance Abuse Counselor, Substance Abuse Counselor in Training, or MPSW 1.09 specialty: or be a physician knowledgeable in addiction treatment or a psychologist knowledgeable in psychopharmacology and addiction treatment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing services to adults with significant mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring needs
  • High level of mental health and substance abuse clinical knowledge and skills with the ability to clearly communicate these to others
  • Prior experience working with individuals from diverse economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Previous experience working with criminal justice-involved clients preferred
  • Experience with Trauma-Informed Care and harm reduction approaches
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • High level of skill in organization, attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to handle multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to navigate and communicate effectively in potential emergency situations
  • Ability to promote positive working relationships with others
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile with insurance
  • Pre-employment background check and annual tuberculosis testing and flu vaccinations as required by Dane County
